Domaine la Soumade is a lovely terracotta winery surrounded by vineyards between Rasteau village and Orange. All the grapes are picked by hand for quality and gentle handling. More syrah than their Village cuvée gives a richer, fruity nose and palate. This wine is matured in 4000-litre wooden foudres and comes from older vines in the best plots, as befits their best wine. Full-bodied and complex on the palate, dark and red fruits, cinnamon and a little spice, and a nice long finish.
